Adventures in Gouda 🇳🇱

As you may already know, my wife and I moved from the beautiful South Africa to the picturesque Netherlands a while ago. We've been exploring and falling in love with this enchanting country, one city at a time. Today, we're excited to share our recent experience of revisiting Gouda, the stunning historic town where we once lived during the peak of the COVID pandemic.

Nestled in the heart of the Netherlands, Gouda is a hidden gem known for its rich history, medieval charm, and of course, its world-famous cheese. As admirers of historic architecture and self-confessed cheese lovers, we couldn't resist the allure of this quaint town.

A couple of years ago, we were fortunate enough to live in Gouda for three months on the famous Lange Tiendeweg street in a beautiful Airbnb. As we arrived in Gouda this time, a wave of nostalgia washed over us. We couldn't help but reminisce about our previous stay and the lovely memories we created here.

Wandering through the narrow, cobblestone streets of Gouda, we felt a sense of familiarity and warmth. The picturesque Markt, or market square, with its stunning gothic structures, and the impressive Stadhuis (town hall) standing proudly at its center, welcomed us back like old friends. The magnificent St. Janskerk, the longest church in the Netherlands, with its collection of stunning stained-glass windows, was just as breathtaking as we remembered.

As we strolled through the town, we were delighted to find our favorite shops, cozy cafes, and delightful bakeries still thriving, inviting us to sit down and enjoy the view. We were also greeted warmly by the friendly locals, who remembered us from our previous stay and were eager to catch up and share their latest Gouda cheese recommendations.

Of course, no trip to Gouda would be complete without a visit to the famous Gouda Cheese Market. This bustling market, held every Thursday between April and August, transports you back to the 17th century with its lively atmosphere, traditional costumes, and mouthwatering selection of Gouda cheeses. The market is not only a cheese lover's paradise but also a testament to the town's rich history and enduring traditions.

Revisiting Gouda after all these months felt like coming home. Our hearts were filled with joy as we rediscovered the charm, history, and warmth that makes this town so special. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a returning traveler, Gouda is a destination that will always leave you longing for more.

As we reflected on our journey back to Gouda, we couldn't help but appreciate the incredible opportunities and freedom that entrepreneurship has brought into our lives. It has allowed us to travel the world, experience different cultures, and create unforgettable memories in places like Gouda. We feel incredibly grateful for the chance to follow our passions and live life on our terms.

We hope our Gouda adventure has inspired you to explore new destinations, chase your dreams, and embrace the power of entrepreneurship. Remember, the world is full of hidden gems waiting to be discovered, and you never know where your journey may take you next.
